Police team up with Sky to stop thieves
Officers from Osterley & Spring Grove Safer Neighbourhoods Team spent two days with staff at Sky at their offices in Isleworth.
The site employs over 5,000 people and the team were on hand to offer practical advice and information and to promote a property marking security initative.
By using a visible wrap around sticker with a unique serial number staff were able to register their pushbikes with Sky's own security staff and with www.immobilise.com A scheme endorsed by the police. Staff were also encouraged to register other property such as TV's, lap tops, sat navs and mobile phones.
PC Watters stated: "Safer Neighbourhoods initiatives aim to reduce crime and the fear of crime. Marking property puts thieves off and makes it harder for them to sell stolen items on. Sometimes we may be dealing with a known thief but can't prove the property they have on them is stolen. This is a great way of overcoming that problem. Not only that, it helps police return stolen property to the rightful owner."
