Big day ends in defeat

The biggest match in Osterley's history ended in defeat when they crashed out of the Evening Standard Trophy in Sunday's quarter-final with Wimbledon.

Had they won, Osterley would have been just one game away from a prestigious final at The Oval. But having posted 238-8 from their 50 overs, with Asad Rizvi striking 44 and Manoj Brasanga 40, Wimbledon chased down the total for the loss of just four wickets.

Skipper Rizvi was philosophical, saying: "At least now we can concentrate on the league and overtaking Edmonton at the top."

Osterley remain second in the Middlesex Championship after taking a winning draw off Indian Gymkhana on Saturday.

Rizvi hit 48, and wicket-keeper/batsman Mohammed Qaisar 58, as Osterley declared on 251-7, before Gymkhana crawled their way to 177-6.

Rizvi added: "We left enough overs to bowl them out, but they were being quite negative. "We play Edmonton on the last day of the season, so it could go right to the wire."
