Osterley Avenue holds street party

Posted by Lucy Proctor on Sep 22, 08 05:15 PM in People

OSTERL~1.jpgResidents of Osterley Avenue joined forces to organise a big street party in honour of the street's 100th birthday on Saturday.

Annie Handford, who has lived in the road for 10 years, said: "It's a very friendly place to live, it's not a typical London street where you don't know your neighbours.

"I think people would rally round if anyone was in trouble, we are a welcoming community."

Locals and guests gathered on Saturday evening to enjoy, a disco, a selection of home made food, a tarot reader and a good old fashioned tug of war, all of which Alex Wotherspoon, of Apprentice fame, officially opened.

"Everyone really pulled together to make it an great evening," she said.

I had a brilliant time at the street party and there was different food from all over the world and the people are really friendly and tight-knitted community. Ailsa Pearcey, Bolton

We moved to Osterly in the early 70's when my father bought the house and still lives there. I travelled from Berkshire to attend what was a fantastic day. It was great seeing many people who l have known over the years. Osterley Avenue remains a close community and a nice place to live.
Well organised and a lot of fun.

I have been living in Osterley for 5 years and think it's a lovely place. The library on St. Marys Cr, the facilities have improved over the years. The new chinese take away "Lam's Kitchen Express" on Thornbury Road has really good food.
Osterley Park as always is beautiful.
